Gratitude Through Appreciating The Gift of Gratefulness

Recently, I have been focusing on the word gratitude.  Gratitude is usually thought of at Thanksgiving, as we gather and ponder our blessings.  As I get older, gratitude seems to be a daily occurrence of reflection for myself.  When I drive to work in the morning, I cross the Missouri River. As I look at the sunrise over the bridge, there is gratitude. Gratitude for the beauty of the colors of the rays. Appreciation for a job that I love. Gratitude for a new day.

The Next Small Thing in Starting again

I have heard of writers taking a break or sabbatical from writing. Taking a break from writing was something I didn’t think I would do, as writing was part of my weekly routine. However, the past several months I took a break from writing to reflect on how and if I wanted to continue writing. The initial posts focused on grief and finding the joy in each day. As time progressed, the posts were written to be a source of encouragement.

Finding Beauty in The Season of Change

Fall has quickly transformed the leaves on the trees. The hues of red, orange and yellow are bountiful in color. The rainbow of leaves reminds me of of the brightness of colors. Sometimes the leaves swirl with the brisk breeze. At other times, the leaves seem to float down to the ground. We have those moments where things swirl around in the day to day. Some days we seem to float more than others.

When things swirl in the day to day or gracefully just are, may we look around and have a perspective of just being present.

Grateful for the Good Things

Recently, I have been reading Make Something Good Today by Erin & Ben Napier. One night, I was watching their show Home Town and enjoyed their renovations of the homes in their small town. Creating and making something new or repurposed is one of my favorite pursuits.The words “make something good today” speaks to finding something positive in our day-to day. There are days when it’s hard to see the good. In these times of uncertainty, it is difficult to focus on the good.
