Lifting Others and Ourselves…Pausing and Reflecting~At Robyn’s Nest of Hope

Flowers in the garden

This week seems to be a heavy week. At the start of the week, I was needing to get some tasks accomplished. I had the mindset to prioritize what had to be done and put my energy into accomplishing those tasks. By mid-week things got crazy. We cancelled our vacation out of precaution. The next evening it was cancelled officially, since our destination was closing. By the end of the week, it was a relief to be able to rest and re-group from the busyness of the week.

As I have been pondering the simple things…rest, home time…I hear the birds singing out our window. Their chirping sound is more intense this morning and that has been the feeling of this week. Yesterday, I looked out our window and saw the creek water rippling down the rocks. White foam was at the end of one portion of the creek, as the water gathered. When we sit back and see things from a simpler place, it brings things into perspective. The boys were watching the creek water flow and asked questions about nature.

Playing Uno with the boys

Sometimes I want to go back to a simpler time..less faced-paced, less stress…more peace…more contentment. I think back to the memories of feeling somewhat carefree…having a playful spirit and being less consumed with worry. The past couple of days of pausing has allowed myself to read new books(which I love to do), play board games with our sons (Mancala is the newest one they enjoy) and watch some of my favorite episodes of HomeTown on HGTV. (This show is just wonderful! Renovting and designing…two of my favorite things!)

I have paused social media at certain times this week. I enjoy social media for many reasons. Learning from others, connecting with others through similar interests, sharing my writing, supporting friends small businesses and learning new ideas are some ways social media has been a great tool for me. Finding the good through uplifting posts, ideas and friends has been my source this week on-line. We focus on the negative at times, but there is much good on-line if we look and focus on the good.

My creative space

In my creative space, I have this lettering creation inspired by my friend Gale. We rise by lifting others…this was my second lettering piece I completed. At times when things are crazy we need to lift others through words and care. It is also important for us to lift ourselves by reflecting and prioritzing. For myself, I need to focus on myself and lift my spirits by doing things such as pausing, reading, and watching an endless amount of my favorite shows. Oh yes, and chips and dip… they are a bonus!

How do you lift yourself when times are difficult? May we look for the good when life is crazy. May we seek to pause and reflect. May we hear the quiet as we slow down. May we enjoy those things that lift us up!

Love these words…
